Our commitment to CSR

Our CSR approach reflects our long-standing commitment to consistent, high-standard organic farming.

It is the binding connection that links our farmers, our team and our partners around a shared mission: to bring organic food to as many people as possible by developing an agricultural model based on respect for people and for nature

This goal is founded on 4 commitments:

  • Supporting a consistent and high-standard organic farming model
  • Ensuring sustainable partnerships for our farmers
  • Offering healthy products with transparent recipes
  • Improving the environmental impact of our farming

"Supporting a consistent and high-standard organic farming model: "

End-to-end organic farming

The central foundation of our business is our organic poultry farming, which consists of 4 essential stages: nutrition for our poultry, collaboration with our breeders, the expertise of our partner production sites and the commitment of our employees.

Our priority is to ensure this farming is consistent and sustainable; by working at every stage to ensure respect for animal welfare, protection of the environment and human health is safeguarded.

The well-being of our poultry

Our commitment to animal welfare and the well-being of our poultry goes beyond the requirements of the French specifications for organic poultry production.

Free range

Between the Loire and Charente, our poultry enjoy a mild climate, large meadows planted with trees and free range runs. We encourage our farmers to plant hedgerows and trees, so that the poultry can perch, peck and take shelter from the sun and bad weather. To date, over 114 km of hedgerows provide a natural setting for our poultry.

We also support our farmers in landscaping and securing meadows so that poultry can access them day and night, protected from predators.

Nutrition and care

Our poultry are fed a plant-based diet from rigorously selected organic crops, without GMOs (<0.9%)*, with recipes adapted to each species and age. This organic diet contributes to their well-being and healthy growth.

When it comes to poultry health, our farmers prioritise prevention and daily care. They treat them with plants and alternative medicine without resorting to antibiotics.

Allowing natural behaviour

Our breeders ensure that the poultry can express their natural behaviour: pecking, perching, scratching the ground, running, dust bathing etc. The perches and games installed in the farms, combined with vegetation planted in the outdoor runs and a regularly maintained straw litter promote the animals’ well-being and help them to flourish.

The conditions in the hen houses are carefully monitored for temperature, light and humidity, to ensure the animals are comfortable.

"Ensuring sustainable partnerships for our farmers"

We work with 122 partner breeders located in the west of France, less than 3 hours’ drive from our head office in Ancenis (Loire-Atlantique), just outside Nantes.

Bodin breeders are the central key to our farming. We commit to a long-term contractual partnership with them, lasting up to 10 years for new breeders. We guarantee them our support, along with that of our cooperative.

Breeders’ committees regularly bring together members of the Bodin team and breeders elected by their peers, so that everyone can have their say and contribute to decision-making.

On a day-to-day basis, our technical team works closely with farmers, providing them with advice on animal welfare and the situation on their farms, implementing and complying with organic and Bee Friendly specifications, etc.

"Offering healthy products with transparent recipes"

We are constantly improving our recipes to offer everyone healthy organic products, free from controversial additives.

Our breaded products are made without colourings or preservatives, and have been awarded a Nutri-Score B.

Our whole poultry and poultry cuts display the Planet-Score®, providing clear information on their environmental impact.

This responsible and informative dual labelling reflects our commitment to transparency and quality to promote healthy eating.

"Improving the environmental impact of our farming:"

Our partnership with Bee Friendly

In 2022, to take our environmental commitment even further, we entered into a partnership with the Bee Friendly® certification, which promotes farming practices that are friendly to pollinators and nature more generally.

This certification is based on the following initiatives:

  • planting hedges and trees in free range runs, to provide shelter and food for pollinators and other insects
  • presence of a herbaceous layer comprising at least three species of low-growing, local plants
  • regular contacts between breeders and beekeepers in their regions

Today, all the farms of our 122 partner breeders are Bee Friendly® certified. Our technical team provides support to this initiative and ensures that every commitment is complied with. An annual external audit is also performed to confirm this certification.

Less plastic in our packaging

Our commitment to environmental responsibility also includes reducing the use of plastic in our packaging.

Back in 2017, we were the first to replace plastic packaging with cardboard packaging for our poultry cuts. Since then, we have focused on sustainable solutions, such as cardboard trays and recyclable mono-material packaging.

These initiatives have already enabled us to reduce usage by 30 tonnes of plastic every year, and we are continuing our efforts to improve the sustainable design of our packaging.

An award-winning CSR approach since 2014

As a result of all our commitments, we were awarded the Bioentreprisedurable® certification by Synabio in 2014. This recognition ensures Bodin employs a comprehensive CSR approach, structured around demanding standards that help us to monitor our performance and make continuous progress.

Today, our compliance with the BioED standard is 93%, concrete proof of the solidity and sincerity of our environmental and social commitment.
